As much of a fan of online dating as I am, there's a new way to meet other singles that really has my attention. Speed dating is exciting, it's fast-paced (as the name suggests) and it's just an all around great way to check out perspective dates or just hook up with potential new friends.
I went to my first speed-dating event the other night and I have to admit I'm hooked. The atmosphere is lively, everyone's over 21 and the time allotted is just enough to see if there's enough chemistry between two people to go any further in establishing a connection.
The concept behind speed dating involves putting a bunch of singles in the same room. Whether it's at a country club, night club or restaurant, the guys or gals (depending on the format) move around the room from table to table meeting new singles, asking them questions and seeing if something more could come from one of the pairings.
Basically, it boils down to 20 or so mini-dates in a single evening. As you work your way around the room, based on the timer, you get to talk with a bunch of new ladies (or men) on a one-to-one basis. If something sparks, you're free to pass on your telephone number.
The event I went to had a "score card" so we could keep track of who we'd like to get to know even better. I've heard that not all events use this format, but the basic idea of meeting many people in a short amount of time is generally pretty consistent.
I meet a real cutie that was an absolute blast to chat with. Who knows, it could turn into something big!
When the bar scene doesn't do it and finding other singles is hard to accomplish, I'd have to say I recommend giving speed dating a try. It's fast, it's easy to meet people and it is just plain fun. It sure beats trying to talk over a really loud band, too!
